Our pre-purchase consultation helps you understand what you can do with a townhouse, what the renovation is likely to involve, and what it could cost.

These are questions we regularly help our clients answer when renovating New York townhouses and brownstones.
If you are deciding between properties, we can also visit more than one house and help you understand the differences from a renovation perspective.

How it works

Preliminary Call
20-30 minute video call to understand the property, your plans, and your priorities.
We review available public records before the visit.

Property visit
Approximately one hour at the property with a reBuild principal or architect.
We walk the house from cellar to roof, and talk through your plans.

Written report
Delivered within five business days.
Summarizes what we found, what appears feasible, and the likely scope, cost, and timeline.
What you’ll know
By the end of the consultation, you should have a clearer understanding of:

Significant conditions that may affect the renovation
Relevant zoning, code (Department of Buildings) and Landmarks considerations
Likely renovation scope, budget range – including all costs – and approximate timeline
What should be investigated next
Anything else about the project that might be of particular interest or concern to you
Fee
$1,200 · Brooklyn or Manhattan townhouse
Includes the preliminary call, records research, on-site walk-through with a reBuild principal or architect, and written report.
→ If you move forward with reBuild for the renovation, the fee is credited toward your design fees.
→ Considering more than one property? Additional consultations are available at a reduced fee.
→ Payment is due after the preliminary call and before the property visit. Cancellations more than 48 hours in advance are fully refundable.
